O.k. I need help. My adventures into sock-land have ended up being..... tricky.

I did the tutorial on Silver's page and my trial sock came out fine, but the actual sock I want to make isn't cooperating. I'm stuck on the heel flap. I'm working this pattern from Ravely and on the directions (copied below so everyone can examine them) it says to knit 14, then turn and leave the rest of the row unworked. That would be fine if the Row 1 directions didn't say K3, P24, K3. This equal 30 stitches, which is right for the heel flap.... until you knit 14 first....

help..................... and thank you everyone in advance.

(note: this isn't directions for turning the heel.... leaving the row unfinished makes sense there)

DIRECTIONS FOR HEEL FLAP FROM THE PATTERN:

Heel is worked back and forth over 30 stitches, so turn after each row. Place the remaining 30 instep sts on spare yarn or DPNs, if you like.
K14, turn work leaving the rest of the round unworked.
Row 1 (WS): K3, P24, K3.
Row 2: K3, *Sl1P, K1; repeat from * to last 4 stitches, K3.
Row 3: K3, P24, K3.
Row 4: K3, *K1, Sl1P; repeat from * to last 3 stitches, K3.

Repeat rows 1-4 for 30 rows, ending with row 2.

We got 9 inches of snow overnight, on top of the 3 we already had.

You try to look pretty after 2 hrs of shoveling slushy snow.

Just found this community, what a great idea!

Who is the gift for?: My boyfriend of one year, Dan.

What is the occasion?: Christmas and our anniversary (it's in January).

List at least three of their interests: Zombies, dinosaurs (specifically velociraptors), philosophy, music (both listening to and playing), ghost hunting, photography, web comics, writing, computers, video games.

Any stipulations or things to avoid: No knitting or crochet. I don't have the patience for it.

What kind of crafting do you do?: Scrapbooking, beading, photography, drawing, baking.

Name some other crafts that you would be willing to try: I am open to suggestions.

Do you have a price range for materials?: Ideally under $30 for each gift, but I am flexible.

Do you have a time limit to make this present?: Christmas Eve and January 8th.

Any other information you'd like to include: He's a musician (he plays both bass and guitar), he's a philosophy major, he works in tech support, and he's got a silly sense of humor. He's not really into clothes, so things like scarves and hats wouldn't be a good idea.

Who is the gift for?: Boyfriend of one year, Tiger.

List at least three of their interests: Goth rock, metal, video games, gothic kitschy stuff, dragons, vampires, knives, the like.
Any stipulations or things to avoid: He really has enough dragon figurines. And we don't have a lot of surface space for useless stuff. Something BIG would be nice (furniture?). No christmas/religious themed crafts.
What kind of crafting do you do?: Painting, paper mache, baking/cooking... I worked in theater tech for many many years so Im good at building things, not so good at drawing.
Name some other crafts that you would be willing to try: Anything! :) I love new stuff.
Do you have a price range for materials?: Under $100 total would be nice.
Do you have a time limit to make this present?: February 10th 2010. If its not done by xmas, it'll just be his birthday gift.
Any other information you'd like to include: I want to make something that will last and be useful. I have a sewing machine but I cannot crochet/knit at all. Any ideas would be loveddd.

So.
Am I really all that odd just because I'd rather have chocolate milk than alcohol?

If being 25, wearing pigtails, not eating meat or poultry when I can see its bones, preferring chocolate milk to alcohol, and not enjoying the company of drunk people is really as strange as you seem to think...

...bring it?

Hello.

I made my boyfriend a tinfoil cat last Christmas and I have since then re-glued it many a time. I want to give him some sort of protective display box for it but I don't know how to do it simply.

The cat is, let's say, 4"x5"x6.5". So not huge, but too big for the shadow frames Jo-Ann sells.

I have access to a woodshop and all the tools and supplies that implies, but I'm not that great doing things with my hands. I want something sturdy but not heavy, that won't appear too dense for what is, essentially, a tent of tinfoil with whiskers. Does anyone have any ideas?

There's no time limit on this, I'm been meaning to do it for a year now so obviously deadlines are not my thing. As far as what I'm willing to spend on it-- perhaps $20, but my parents would probably "subsidize" it, so more would be okay. They're generous like that. The amount of time I want to spend-- well, however long a simple project takes, really, as I said, I'm in no rush.

Thank you to anyone who shares an idea. :)
